hey,

is the tip-less pen supposed to look like this?

only the tip that originally came with the iron can be installed tight. all tip replacements I've bought (from ebay admittedly) are totally loose when I screw the holder in. can you say poor heat transfer? ebay seller claims an "inner sleeve" must have broken off inside the original tip, yet I see nothing in there (high-powered flashlight and magnifying glass). it still fits perfectly, but none of the new ones do (I've tried 4, from 2 separate ebay vendors).

on the outside, the new tips and the old tip look identical. on the inside, it "looks" as if the old tip has a 0.5mm tighter squeeze, but it's not because there's something stuck there. it seems to be made that way, all "one piece". it might also be an illusion. old used and dark vs new and shiny.

I have the same iron. Mind does not have that groove like yours; it it is round with no visible crease. I feel your pain though. I've bought 2 different tips that were supposed to fit the WES51 with absolutely no luck.

i dont have a wes51 but an older model that uses the exact same tips. i use replacements from this company http://www.platoproducts.com/tipcross.html.to me they seem to work very well.

if you want to try one on your iron to see send me an email.
