Well, I bought mine.  Always wanted an AC128 fuzz just for the mojo factor.  I don't think they could be that bad, but I will certainly compare these to the "All American" set I bought from Small Bear.  Those sound really good too, BTW.  But a little less mojo.   ;)

I hate to repeat myself, but these modern AC128's are not the "mojo" ones, if there is such a thing.  If you read the article at Jacques Stompboxes that I linked to earlier, you'll see a pic of the ones that were used in the vintage pedals, they are the trannies in the larger case, not the skinny modern ones, which sound different in the circuit.  Same thing with NKT275's, the desirable ones are the larger case vintage version, which is why people like Analog Man have scoured Europe to find them (paying high prices), not the skinny case version that is around now (many of which are fakes anyway, like the ones Dunlop uses).  I don't believe you are going to get any better sound with these AC128's than you would with any of the sets that Small Bear sells, the gains are the most important factor, and how they are biased.  But if you get some that are the right gains for the Fuzz Face, and you bias them correctly, you'll probably have a decent Fuzz Face.  They are not, however, the type of AC128's that were reportedly used in vintage Fuzz Faces.

There's no evidence that AC128s were ever used in vintage Fuzz Faces.
