Muff Diodes

Yeah - I know this is a well-trodden topic, but I've just made something of a discovery.

When fixing up a broken /parts win from eBay, my Muff board does not have the standard 1N14... diodes.

The parts printed on the PCB itself are 1N6263 in all positions - which are Schottkey diodes.

Whilst I realise this one's most likely not a rare original (it has an LED indicator), it does have a lovely grainy tone.

So - for anyone building or modding a Muff, I'd recommend trying Shottkeys instead of the usual diode suspects.

Cheers!

Mine's all over the place.   :icon_wink:

DPDT engage/disengage switch with LED indicator, but has really old-style knobs.

PCB has 3003-A marked on it.  I'm assuming mine was put together from odds and ends.

That being said, I love the sound of it (after changing the 400pF caps for 220pF, subbing the 1uF input cap for a 0.2uF, and fitting a tone bypass switch...  :icon_wink:).

Kitrae's excellent site is a wealth of information, should you wish to read into the different versions.

I'd post the link here, but the corporate filters behind which I currently type, don't like the word 'M*ff'.

Cheers!
