You need to take it apart to do that? Hmm... That doesn't make sense.

Would a circlip work? I've probably got some the right size that I can send you.

I bet Mr. Hammer will be able to tell ya. From what I gather, he has taken apart more switches than anyone else here, lol. One post from him even mentioned turning a DPDT Momentary into a latching.

I've pulled apart the RS DPDT and put them back together with no problem, and many many slide switches (those are just pressure spring, and the contacts... easy).
Give a man Fuzz, and he'll jam for a day... teach a man how to make a Fuzz and he'll never jam again!

As a matter of fact I have disassembled and reassembled one.

But like Doug, I am mystified at how the total disassembly relates to your stated mission.

More info is needed. (and don't rely on photobucket pictures; I can't see them at work)

Ronsonic

I've disassembled one and am certain I could reassemble it if needed. Like the others I see absolutely no reason to consider it.

YMMV I can disassemble and reassemble all sorts of stuff that other people usually can't. It's what I do.

There are 3 things to keep in mind when disassembling any stompswitch, whether DPDT or 3PDT:

1) Tabs can only be bent so much before they fracture.  Be gentle, and plan on only doing it once for any given switch.

2) Things go boi-oi-oi-oing! when you take it apart.  Be ready, so as to avoid loss of parts.

3) Keep track of orientation of parts, and what goes pointing up or pointing down.

@markeebee, thanks i had thought of a circlip, but it wouldnt do for my needs
and i have just re-thought it through!!!...
thanks for the kind  offer though!...appreciate it..

@mark hammer. yeah i know its a strange idea , but i have just rethought this anyway...
i dont like the idea of boing boing..all over the place, with very fiddly bits...so am not going down that destroying route now... :icon_mrgreen:

im just going to destroy it another way...... :icon_rolleyes:

so my next question is...is the shaft including the top, hollow all the way through?...could it be drilled
in the centre into the shaft, so i could screw into the top.....?

i know its a mystery what im getting up to, but believe me all will be revealed (on this forum only) if i can do this..and it will be
a great if not unorthadox project with many uses.. with a bit of butchery involved.... :icon_mrgreen:

Sounds to me like you might have to do some invasive exploratory surgery, and be willing to sacrifice the patient in the name of science.

yep looks that way.....i think its hollow though. just need to sort out other bits before the butchery commences...

The part you step on is hollow, but that's basically to make room for the plunger and spring.  I'm guessing you're thinking of installing the LED inside the switch, right?  Not really any room for that in there.

deadastronaut

cheers mark. nope not an led..anymore guesses?.. :icon_mrgreen:

even though i had thought of that before...but gave up quickly on that idea.... ;)

so the top 5/6mm part is hollow, great thats deep enough for a screw to go into then...

but dont go in to deep, into the actual shaft then....fine.

let the butchery commence..

if if works you guys will either call me totally bonkers..or just completely bonkers...
either way i'm prepared for a roasting on this... :icon_mrgreen:

Knowing you, and taken into account that there's not enough space for a 386 or a 555 in the siwtch shaft , I smell 3 letters L  E   D !!  :D  :D  :D

Scruffie

Are you just screwing some kind of plate onto it to increase the footprint size (or maybe add an etched image plate or something?) Or putting something between 2 switches to switch them both at once?

hday

I smell some different letters: LDR, perhaps?

Also, any visual documentation of your process would be great, even if unsuccessful.

markeebee

It's November 5th.

Are you fitting a Catherine Wheel to the switch?
