USING A 3DPT SHAFT AS A CONTROL.

i moved this to a new thread ok guys.

im know im going to get roasted big time on this, but here goes, so roast away... :icon_redface:

a wah or any pot control using the 3dpt itself...without any treadle.

benefits include, small enclosure, no large treadle, can be applied to any pedal....

could be used to control anything you like....modulation,delay,feedback,fuzz,speed rate,etc....
all in a small enclosure...using the unused slack in the 3dpt shaft.....around 7mm..5mm when clicked down..
now i know this is not a lot, but it is enough to push an ldr into an led, and therefore control anything you fancy.
because it is foot controlled it would be too easy to keep turning on/off by accident..so
i would have a hi tension spring/device to make it harder to press etc...
here is my general idea in diagram form...and dont laugh!!! :icon_wink:

external view

and overall internal view

so there it is!..any roasting or ideas will be welcome..even general abuse too.. :icon_wink:

what do you think guys?
bear in mind that i'm in no way an engineer or graphic designer(which may be stating the bleeding obvious)..  :icon_mrgreen:

roast away guys.... ::)

Cool, can't see why it shouldn't work. Wouldn't it be easier to connect the light blocking board to the switch though rather than the LDR?
The same basic idea could be used to press a momentary switch.......

yes i suppose the light blocking board could be attached to the switch,
and the ldr on the switch case..hmmm..yeah!..
the attachment just has to be strong enough to take the spring tension too...
momentary switch is a cool idea too...have both ha ha...

i need to get a bit of hard metal to play with.. :icon_twisted:

You don't need the LDR or LED to move, you just need a slot on the metal. Put the LDR and LED either side of the light shield, and you should be in business.
That said, I don't think that you necessarily need to mount this to the switch itself, if you're adding a spring, a plunger type thing should do the trick just as well.

yep very true on the metal slot.
i like the idea of a simple plunger, because then a round hole could be drilled instead of a slot on the enclosure.
but it needs to be strong enough to handle the under spring..
i guess i need to re-think the overall under spring idea a bit more..i thought of having a small leaf spring type device.
instead of a normal coiled one too.

any engineers opinions?...
