AMZ Fat Mod Question

Greetings all,

I'm about to embark on a 808 Tube Screamer build (boring, I know.) using the PCB layout from Tonepad. I've been researching the Tube Screamer mods that are out there and came across AMZ's Fat Bass Mod and I want to incorporate it into my build. Since I'm building it from scratch rather than modifying a stock unit, I plan to take the 0.047uf capacitor offboard and attach it to on side of a DPDT toggle switch, have a jumper on the other side and wire the toggle switch back to the location of the 0.047uf capacitor on the PCB. See the example below (forgive my crude artwork):

My question is will this work? And is there anything else I need to take into consideration?

Many thanks for any help and comments,

Blake (a.k.a. FuzzMonkey)

Hello FuzzMonkey,

It will work, though I cannot see what the angle is in which you drew the switch, but I guess you will manage to make the right connections to the switch - it may be drawn right if the second pin from the left is actually the first pin at the left on the other side of the switch.

If you merely want to bypass the capacitor (that is what you are proposing here - I do not know the mod itself you are referring to) then you could simply use a cheaper switch, just to "' short" the connections of the capacitor. If you use the DPDT you can replace the jumper by other capacitor values, of course.

Greetings Maarten,

Here is the link to the mod itself:

Sorry about the artwork, its probably not the best way to do it but I'm still new to DIY effect so I tend to do things the way I know rather than what is easier. Thank you for the feedback and comments.
