I have an Ibanez BC-9, and the switch doesn't take sometimes. I have to really push the pedal or hold it down to make it click on or off. I took it apart today, which was fun, but in the process, the black wire broke off from the switch so now it doesn't work at all. I suppose this is a simple soldering issue...? But I'm not sure what to do about the switch... now that I broke it, should I replace the switch, or just solder the wire back on and clean the switch out with alcohol? I'm not sure how to get the switch open or if I even need to to clean it. My guess is it hasn't been opened up since before I was born! It's a really cool pedal, though. Thoughts, anyone? I am brand new to electric guitars and pedals...

You will need to solder the black wire back on whatever path you take.

What to do with the switch is a bit of a value judgement and depends on you abilities/confidence.  I've repaired some switches by dismantling, cleaning, and sometimes bending the inards then reassemble.  However other switches can't be pulled apart without destroyign them, you can try to flush them with alcahol or electronic clearner from the outside but results are varied.

The replacement route  is the other option but you have to find one.

Apparently Analog Man has can repair or replace them, see,

According to the water analogy of electricity, transistor leakage is caused by holes.

Smallbear carries a replacement switch. 55 cents.

Before you buy one, double check and make sure that the switch in your pedal looks similar to the one that you can get.
