Looking for suggestions on a "velcro fuzz" sounding build.

But I'm just looking into different options. Maybe something with a bit more options, in terms of tonal sculpting?

Pretty touchy, though, isn't it? Also noisy? Hmm...

The 'Velcro' in a fuzz is achieved by lowering the voltage of the 2nd transistor. Any fuzz will do. I used a regular Fuzz face and added a bias knob. Turning it down will sag it to 2 or 3 volts. That's where the velcro kicks in.

Take a look at my fuzz face clone demo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVecL9wMVx0). I sag the voltage at 2:15 in the video.

yes. get the in cap and out cap and bias. thats it. most of it is a misbiased fuzz sound, the rest is frequency shaping with the in and out caps...
build a normal fuzz(in case you havent 200 times already) then tailor the in cap and out cap. how farty(in cap) how bassy(out cap) how misbiased - cut in and out...(bias resistors.). fuzz pedals are a simple design that can do lots of tricks based on how they are set up..

  Its important to have a control that can dial in when the second transistor turns on. (in a two stage fuzz) The "velcro" sound I think is due to that last bit of waveform amplitude quickly turning the transistor on and off so you want to sort of ride that knife edge and have control of it. It makes that "Zippy" texture. I think that's where a Fuzz Factory can come in handy.

Take a look at the Easyface by Joe Gagan. It has a blend knob which let you dial in the amount of input capacitance. I settled for a 1uf cap for mine. Left the output alone.
