What are you curious to try that you've never tried?

Given the threads here, it would seem like there are probably few...if any...members that do NOT have some sort of distortion effect, or maybe even more than one.  And a lot will have maybe a booster, a wah, and perhaps a chorus.

But there are a LOT of effects and effect categories out there that they have simply never used or even tried out in a music store.  Stuff that is just foreign to them, and seemingly unrelated to anything they can imagine musically.

So what have you perhaps heard about or seen, and wondered "Jeez, how would I sound through THAT?".  What would be a kind of effect, or even an effect feature to use, that you've never had the opportunity to use/play?

I'll start it off.

I've used sample and hold stuff, but I've never had the opportunity to use a sequencer-based effect, like some of the various 8-step units Zachary Vex has out, or more complicated things.

I've never used a looper, but after having acquired a MIDI guitar recently, I'm kind of curious to try one.

Heli Talk Box & Echoplex, but I have a feeling I'd try them once just to try them, but not purchase.  Still I want to say I've tried them.  Same with a Dumble & Taurus Bass Pedals.

I've always wanted to build a Theremin.  I played one of those through my RC-20XL looper one night with a phaser & delay, and I LOVED it.  So much fun.  Building a Theremin layer to jam over is truly one of those "can't be done more than once" things that's fun.

A Valvecaster/Tube Driver.  (On my list of "1st builds" for when I get laid off.  Actually looking forward to it for this very reason...)

I've never used a midi guitar, but after hearing Benn Jordan from The Flashbulb I really want to try one out. I think it would be great for orchestration purposes since my guitar skills are light years ahead of my keyboard skills.
I played a 1959 Stratocaster once but I've never played a real '57. That would be nice.
Playing through an old Marshall JTM45  on ten.
Kon Centaur. I just saw one on Craigslist in Ft. Lauderdale for $750. I've got to hear one of those someday.
BK Butler Tube Driver.
Then there's skydiving. I'm deathly afraid of heights although at that height it probably doesn't even matter. I think it would be good for me.
Attending a Vippassana retreat is another thing I've been putting off too long.

EDIT: On a more serious note, I've never tried a ring mod type of effect, but I'm curious to hear what I'd sound like.

Well, I've tried the one but not the other.  I suspect that the other, much like the one, is to be engaged in......sparingly, and with a certain amount of risk, trepidation, and need to know what you're doing :icon_lol:.

Big Cheese - Easy enough to build, just never found the time.

Harmonic Percolator - Now we have a definitive list of parts, I'd love to play/build this one.

Jfet amps sims - I know a lot of people have discredited these as not sounding like the amps themselves, not to mention the turd storm about correct jfet biasing, but I feel like they are useful for creating different tones whether they sound like the amps or not.  

H.O.G - I tried out a micro pog, but I'm curious to feel what a H.O.G would do for me.

Oh!!!! You mean regarding effects!!! OK I get it!  DSP looks like a mysterious world of opportunities.....I would really like to learn about DSP.

  Multiple 'algorythm' echoes.
 "Who are you" and "The Real Me" [the Who] had neat effect of stuck-phrase echo, in and beside the face so to speak, algorythmically demanding attention of the listener by way of seeming random in tempo and volume [or presence/eq].
 Say I said: 1
 The echoes would say:
 1  1 1 1  1  1  1 1 1 1
 In a non-repeat-o fashion, with accent echoes.
 Any different twister type effect, phase, flange and chorus, as far as I can tell, have bent phase and notched signals about every way possible at this time. Not as though it isn't good enough, but a little bit or heavy phase twists are enough...not to say I wouldn't revisit my theoretical understandings of how many ways are there to 'twist a cycle' ?
 So...back to echoes again then, since I'm familiar with distortions, what they can do, what I do and don't like about them, how I like to use them, and octaves.
 I had a 'cricket effect echo that set off like original note, rest, then like 8 or 12 quick repeats...neat effect: Click> Cccccccccclick. Somethings along this line or even the ability to set the time before first echo, and rate or anything else on successive repeats.
 Other than that I have a well trained tone pallette I guess, tending toward 'old recipe's of spicing up' guitar sounds, tones of old guitars and 'breakthrough' [early in the history of distortion] distortion tones.
 I haven't heard anything that struck me as particularly outstanding tonally, or radically 'new'  in the last 10 or 20 years.

Besides Satriani whammying, which is really just one of Morello's infinite tricks with the whammy, Lots of guys seem to get mileage out of the whammy in conjunction with the fuzz factory.  While I personally am not a fan of his playing or the band Wilco, Nels Kline has some cool stuff going on with that - check out this video starting from 7:00:

I've wanted to build that for years but haven't done it yet. I even bought the Vactrols four years ago.

Someone here sells PCBs but not to Europe ???. Anyway, I'm just lazy and have no real use for it. If I want I can build it on perfboard in an afternoon.

Writing this I hear that one demo that still blows me away even thinking about it. Hmm, the holidays are comming. Just need a LM386 and a NE555. The rest I have in stock ;D.

I still have no idea what I'd do with a Whammy, yet I know I'm gonna impulse-buy one someday... I'm a sucker for anything that can make funky noises flood the basement!

Do you mean these UGLYFACE BOARDS??

I think he ships anywhere, but its free shipping to the US. At least I got one, though I live in Canada. They're excellent boards, and soggybag's very nice to do business with  :) I'd recommend them. Now to find a good enclosure for it is another story... Just remember you absolutely need a CMOS 555 for it to work, which can be a pain to find.

I am in desperate wanting of a Earthbound Audio Effects Supercollider... supposed to be the bees knees for grinding, loud, bassy distortion for bass.

You can do it! ( I can do 9/10's of the stuff on my list too, Doh!)

Does anyone have a schematic for creating more time?  Specifically more day light hours?  I have the schematic with the Flux capacitor, that one didn't work off my 1Spot.

I can't think of one time I've heard one sound good.
Usually it only sounds good to me if somebody is trying to sound bad on purpose.
Everything else I've either tried or built, loved or hated, so maybe I just need to build one and get it over with.

Who knows I might love it.  :icon_eek:

Is it a Ring Mod at the end of The Black Keys' "Tighten Up"? Sounds tasteful to me.
My Boss ME-50 has a Ring Mod controlled by the expression pedal, and to me that seems to be the only proper way to use one. Sort of like a Whammy pedal. I think it could be pulled off in a sort of power trio setting, but I'm fresh out of drummers and bassists, and I hate to use that thing anyway. I just use it for effects that I have not bought or built yet, and usually I'm better of without the effect.
How hard can it possibly be to put FRESH vegetables in a can? Seriously.

Maybe not a real effect as effects go, but a real plate reverb. I saw a band in a studio use one years ago but I never tried it myself. To me its a several decades old design that has never been surpassed

My most common question usually seems to be on the other side of the coin... what is THAT guy using?!  But I also commonly ask, where will THAT fit on my board?  ;D

Thanks for the tip to use a CMOS 555. And of course I could find it in small bears shop  ;D: http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=225. Apparently soggybag had some problems with international Paypal and didn't always get his money. Anyway, it's just that I'm too lazy to put it on perfboard as it isn't a big project..
