I want to build a switching system with 3 or 4 "channels". when you turn one on the rest are off.
I am aware of the switching system at geofex.com but that is just a bunch of switches that can all be on at once (I think).
Where do I start?

If you were looking at this:

(from here)

Then you misunderstood.
Pressing one switch latches ONLY that channel on, latches all others off.

Use only 4 sections and you have your 1-of-4 selector logic done.

[edit]
Although if using only 4 sections you may want to add a pull-down resistor to the Latch Enable pin.  The leakage through just 4 diodes may not be enough to produce a reliable logical LOW on that pin in time to get the data latched.  A reasonable value would be in the range of 1k-100k.

If you're interested in just 4 or 5 channels and are looking for a simpler schematic, I used this www.wizardinside.it/foto/schemi/switch-sch.pdf for my presets needing...
Exclude Out1 for 4 channels
"NOT FLAMMABLE" is not a challenge

There was a switching system article in Elektor some years back (within the last 15).  If you go to the magazine site, they have a lot of articles for download.  If you "subscribe" to the site, they let you have some free credits, and that may be enough to score that particular article, otherwise you'd have to pay for downloading it.

In any event, it has a PCB layout accompanying it.

If only rotary switches were stompable  :icon_wink:

Wah-pedal mechanism.

Not exactly the most precise way to do it, and I'm pretty sure that a Latch and a few relays are less expensive than the Wah pedal!
