Aluminum knob mounting issues

I use aluminum knobs almost exclusively on my pedals. One common problem with all of them, that I have, is when they are "bottomed out" on the pots and tightened down.... they ALWAYS seem to drag along the enclosure or cause an interruption in the "smoothness" of the pots rotation.

Now... the solution I have found is to just raise the knob ever-so-slightly and re-tighten it (usually with the assistance of a plastic or metal washer cleverly placed underneath the knob)

Has anyone else had this problem? I ask because I see several pictures on the forum with the knobs (aluminum) bottomed out on the pots.

I use aluminum pots as well and find the same thing you do. I lift them lightly when tightening the set screw. AFAIK there's no other easy solution. Sometimes larger pots have wider openings towards the bottom to fit around pot nuts, but smaller ones don't and I don't think this slight adjustment is avoidable. But it's not much of a problem in any case.

AES and a few other supplies that cater to vintage radio restoration sell felt washers that you slip onto the knob shaft before mounting the knob. They work well for keeping the knob off the face of the pedal.
