1mm is freakin *huge*!!
The standard hole size for the vast bulk of components (resistors, IC sockets, small caps) is 0.6mm. Electrolytic caps with more than 2.5mm pitch usually require 0.8mm (0.7mm might do, but it's an odd size), as do IC pins themselves, big diodes (e.g., 1N4001) and your average hook-up wire. 1mm is waaay large, and usually required only for things like board-mounting pots. 0.8mm should cover 99% of components.

I have a few each of #55, #60, #65, and #69.  I use the #69 for most things, and the larger ones when it is required.  I also have 3/32 and 9/32 for stand-off holes.
