i ordered 5x tl072c's off the net only to find that there surface mounts. I didnt etch my board to use surface mounts. Is there anyway i can use them? I can't send them back and its looks crazy soldering wire onto em.

Order some adapters...

Oh wait, might as well postpone the pedal and order the DIP tl072 chip instead.

Your options are....

1. Solder wire onto them (awkward, not robust - that said, if you superglue your SOICs to your etched board & then use resistor legs to bridge from your drilled holes to each of the SOIC pins, that should be more robust - don't have sex or drink coffee for two days prior)

2. Buy some SOIC to DIL adapters (this will cost more than the TL072s themselves!)

3. Go back & change/re-etch your board to have SOIC for the TL072 locations (easy if you're designing a circuit from scratch - a p1sser if you want to use them in an existing design)

4. Put it down to experience & pop them in the back of your parts drawer & buy 5 DIL TL072s (5 surface mount tl072s should have cost you nor more than $2.50....in fact I can't believe I've taken two minutes of my time to type this out when we're talking about such a little sum!)

If you have some DIL sockets for mounting normal through hole ic's you can solder the smd components to these then mount them to the pcb normally,Or as said above just buy some correct TL072s

Please at least have 1 forum post before sending me a PM demanding something.

It's more about my time! I wanted to finish this pedal this week since my project pile is getting bigger :P.
