Hi all,

Just want to shoot this out there and see what bites...

I know that there are "different" LM386 units out there i.e. LM386N-1, LM386L, etc. They do have different spec's, such as voltage, gain and such, but it made a HELL of a difference in my Parallel Universe V2 build. I found that the only 386 chip that would induce oscilation at low volume levels was the UTC LM386L chip. I tried all the N chips (except the N-2), and I would have to turn up the volume and tone to get it to go off. I guess these chips don't like being too close to ground, they get all quiet. Besides that, frequency wise, they sounded pretty shitty. Kind of bizzare considering that the L and the N-1 are the same spec, as far as I could tell. I've ordered a couple more UTC L's to test this find further.

Could this be a bad chip gone good? Or is some other force at work here?

Cheers,
Dino
