So really, how bad is this?  I made a crucial noob mistake in not running the traces in the proper direction when I soldered the components in.

Live an learn I guess.

Should I troubleshoot this circuit before hooking it up to the box components just to make sure all my connections are okay?

Whoa, these pictures came out terrible.  They looked much better on my computer.  Sorry about that.

Not sure.

Is there a way to tell without hooking everything else up?

Stupid question but can I just wire everything without it being in the enclosure to see if it works? I'm waiting for the paint to dry.

You should see my first soldering job. I've been trying to work up the balls to post it in the Disaster Photos thread.

Hah. Did it work?

I need a new tip for my soldering gun. The one I have is way too big for this type of work.

come on...dont be scared!... :icon_mrgreen:

'shinerman.  :testing before building : get yourself a breadboard...stick 2 jacks on it..and a power supply.....test everything!!!!!!....

nothing worse than building it into a box neatly..only to rip it out again..!!!.. :icon_wink:

^What Rob said--it's pretty nice to have for building.

However, you can get away with alligator clips on jacks for now :)

Otherwise, it's a fairly simple circuit--hook it all up and see how it sounds!

that looks great for a first timer

Yeah, I think it's fine.  It appears you're doing a vero-to-perfboard conversion, which is admirable.  I think that's a smart move because first timers cutting vero traces is usually a mess.

Your next challenge is the wiring.   ;)

It actually worked right away!  I totally surprised myself.  The wiring was the most tedious part but I took it slow.  It took me around 2 hours to get it all done which I'm sure it won't take as long next time since I sort of have the hang of it now.

Here are some pictures of it.  I also put together two video demos of the pedal as well here and here (crappy phone recording audio but you get the idea).

It sounds really good but the damn thing is super loud even on the lowest setting.  I'm not sure if the original is this way as well.

It was very cool to watch your project develop from multiple places on the web :) Glad you got it up and running!

Just a note on the loudness--yes, it does provide significant boost at the lowest setting. With minimal tweaking, at the [slight] sacrifice of some impedance mojo, you can put a different volume control on it that'll let you lower the volume all the way.
