I'm looking for a pedal to give me a Stones type overdrive for my G&L asat. The best demo i have come across is the Durham Zia pedal

It can be hard to pack stones in a box.
There are many tones that are difficult, others that won't fit without turning partly to grit.
Alone, the circuit balancing done @9v and large vibrating parts are able to zone clones of...oh...depends what ThaT plugs into also...big differences in amps is what allude to here.
Speaker suspension [and how loaded is it when..], whether there's an OT which can produce soft-knee harmonics associated with kinetic energies of:
Just about anything that drives into the speaker hard enough to get close enough to it's max output to...sound a lot like HQ old amp. Ie circuits to do this and that were fine balancing act, the OT/Speaker 'leaned on' to various degrees by dynamics and settings and boost and dist and reverb seemed easier.
There are some very fine SS, Mosfet etc. amps which of course can get the speaker involved, and the average of loading induced frequency shifts can be preset in the pedal/preamp.
With just about any system for reproducing small signal outputs [PA/various amps] CMOS and Jfet seemed to have the 'creamiest' and 'smoothest' 2B sounds with ~wide variance in what they could do and sound cool.
 Q1...bipolar or Jfet [buffer?.
 Q2...Jfet/
Multiple stages of CMOS chip ~5v-7v supply [for 'amptones' IRC], built a number of 'em, sad, they got burnt up, I should replace them.
Two tone controls in a row? there ar e reasons why, worth a look at the amplifier block diagram or schematic and deciding about TC>TC?.
Started with Tube Sound Fuzz, Amp Simulator Jfet work, fetzer Valve [read carefully], work with these stages, prehaps another pre-stage or two to drive it with 2 touches of slightzing.
Too bad it's not possible to mention it all at one instant so it doesn't seem like what comes first was favored in some way. It doesn't have to be.

cheers folks....
oh ultran8.... i got the tele, mesa is a wee bit out my range but i also have loads of whiskey, 5 cats but i gave up the smokes.... what are my chances  ;)

B Tremblay

I recommend the Peppermill, Supreaux Deux, or Omega (at higher Range settings).  One specific tone of theirs I've tried to capture is Stray Cat Blues from "Get Your Leeds Lungs Out" and I've been close with those pedals.

I think, the Stones songs that are played in the Durham video linked above where originally played with a simple overdrive tone from the Vox AC-30. That´s why I wonder why you don´t recommend the English Channel,B Tremblay?!?
Another good choice would be the Wampler Cranked AC, I think I saw a layout and schematic for that somewhere, maybe at the other forum.

Hey,
When I saw your post I immediately thought of this demo, featuring the General Guitar Gadgets ITS8. This guy smokes it up in open G.

Keith's recorded sound is usually gotten using two amps, one small amp cranked for grit and one larger amp for definition.  So I think an OD that mixes in clean signal with the distorted sound might get you close, like the Sparkle Drive or similar pedals.

what about the tech21 liverpool and british pedals!

Original EHX Hot Tubes.  Sounds VERY Keef when the gain is not maxed.  Also 4049-based.  Hard to find but you can probably find a Snarling Dogs Tweedy Dog, which is the identical circuit without a power supply.

+1 for a CD4049 overdrive/distortion effect.
Pete alluded to this above, when he said "CMOS and Jfet seemed to have the 'creamiest' and 'smoothest' 2B sounds with ~wide variance in what they could do and sound cool"
cheers

a Catalinbread Formula No 5 with additional Clean Blend pot would be a great pedal, I guess.
