Printing light colors for water slide decals...

I'm trying to print up some light grey or yellow decals for my latest pedal, but i'm having trouble. My enclosure is dark green and since my printer prints thinking that there is a white background I can't see any of the labels once they're applied. Any tips for printing out light colored labels for dark colored boxes?

I did print on laser decal material with color laser printer, seems to work fine, and decal looks nice on maple wood (guitar neck) ...

Can you paint it white under the decal? Stuff for dark t-shirts have white background, use it instead?

I feel like an ass now, having bought an enclosure that I can't even label...

A couple things you might try, you my be able to find some white dry transfer labels or as Nasse said you can paint the background where you want to label to go, white or another light colour.

Why not this way: paint the box white and print out the picture a little bit darker. then you will have everything.
It works for me

Well I bought the enclosure from small bear, already powder coated. It has such a nice finish that its a shame to ruin it with my shitty spray painting skills.

I guess i'll just leave it blank, unless i can find some of those white dry-transfer things...

I would love to get this system. They make it look so easy. It would be nice to know if anyone here has it and can say if it's woth the expense.

I think Pigyboy uses it... He's got some cool metallic/holographic designs on some of his pedals.

I had the same problem with a box I painted green. I ended up using white waterslide paper and printed in green on it to match the colour of the box.
It took a bit of trial and error to match the green printout with the colour of the box, but this can be done by printing a small 'swatch' of green.

Go slowly with the lacquer as it just loves to make those colours run!!
