LED for my phase 45?

Hello again.

I just finished up a phase 45 clone using tonepad's  layout. http://www.tonepad.com/getFile.asp?id=70
I put an LED in but I just wired it as a simple on/off indicator.  I really dig the pulsating LED of the Pickle vibe, and was wondering if it could be done in this pedal.  I like the slow fade that matches the sound as opposed to the simple blinking, but, if blinking is all that's inherently possible, I'll take that too.

Probe the ICs until you find a leg that is wobbling in voltage at the same rates as the speed knob and tap into that for the LED V+. Then run the V- from the LED to the same point on the stomp switch as your on/off LED.

Dont forget the current limiting resistor!

All done!  ;D

EDIT: If you find the correct IC leg to tap, then the slow fade/blinking will depend on the SPEED pot location.

Aside from your pulsing LED query, isn't the Phase 45 just about one of the nicest phase shifters ever designed? It's got an absolutely beautiful sound...subtle yet well-defined with an inherent & unique character all its own. The speed range of this two-stage phaser covers all of the bases (for me) & it blends in perfectly with a FF and/or OD effect.

The 4+ stagers (as well as many chorus pedals) sound way too contrived...with their somewhat cheesey 70s-early 80s commercial/strip mall-elevator music sound.

Thanks, guys.  And yes, it sounds AWESOME!

I attempted to build the Tonepad version of the Phase 45... didn't work. wracked my brain for a week and gave up. That was a year ago. I might try it again.

I think matching the FETs was the problem.

Celery_Strat

Well, funny you should say that, because mine ain't working either!  I read some places that the pinout for the FETs is backwards on the layout, but that info was pretty dated, and I was wondering if it's been corrected since before I go swapping things all around.

I have the same problem. Fets are matched 2N5259 at VGS about 1,65V and I've used a 5,1V zener. The output sound has lower volume that the bypass sound, no phasing and when I turn the knob up it starts to make a ticking noise :(

build the ggg version...much much better imo.....not so fussy on the trannies too... :icon_wink:

heres a demo of it..i love it..
