In this schematic: http://www.tonepad.com/getFile.asp?id=108

under potentiometers, what is meant by the "B" that is listed at the end of VR1 - 100k"B"

For VR2 - what is the purpose of the "A"at the end?

Also, what are standard lengths, and widths of the posts that we desire for our pots? mouser gives us so many options!

Thanks in advance!!

Jhouse

B means a linear pot. A means a logarithmic/audio pot.

I don't know about the length/width question. I order from smallbear mostly.

Unfortunately there's two standards - US and European, and they're totally opposite...
In this case B=log taper, A = lin taper (Euro).
It's always good to keep an eye on the circuit and make an educated guess - volume and gain pots are usually log (or "audio" taper), tone controls, bias controls and such are usually lin.
A search on "pot taper" and http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/potsecrets/potscret.htm
should help
