Been trying to make a weird effect that is passive. I came up with this weird thing. When i play guitar (through a booster) it passes the guitar signal and triggers the oscillator or keyboard I have plugged in. Sometimes the oscillator also modulates the guitar sound. I have had to have all of the volumes cranked for the most part on the instruments I'm using and the output is really strange sounding and sometimes crackly and distorted. There is a large volume drop too.  Maybe adding one or two more components will increase the capability here but for now it is really sloppy sounding and unpredictable. But still a weird passive effect. Give it a shot but be warned! If i can get it sounding crazier in some way I was thinking of calling it the "bat computer"?

Omitting the power supply from the schematic does not a passive effect make.

I was wondering if it was passive or not, I wasn't sure. The components are active i guess it would be active?

If the transistor is amplifying current (at any point in normal operation) I would call it active.  Imagine that for one instant in time Keyboard is more positive than Amp.  That means a small current between Instrument and Amp will control a larger current between Keyboard and Amp.

Very minimalist, and I'm sure it sounds weird, so kudos to you.  :)

One thing you might consider is that if two or more of the terminals connects to a low-impedance source or load, you could damage the transistor.  A smallish resistor between Instrument and base, plus another between Amp and emitter, would prevent major damage.

good to know, honestly I think that it sounds weird but doesn't exactly work well. This is because of somewhat incorrect part usage. I am going to continue to develop it and possibly introduce a power supply. I have built all of the beginner projects in here to get up to speed and am now exploring into building my first real original design for the forum. Just kind of jumping right in and giving myself a crash course in design. Trying to randomly put things together and figure out the science of whats going on and expand on it. I feel like a one transistor effect that isn't a boost will be a good start but it looks like this thing still needs more attention and parts.
