I have been thinking a little about clipping, the switch i have now is a SPDT that is connected to the Circuit board,  i used the wiring diagram from GGG.

I have been searching on the internet for this two empty diode places  D3 and D5 and cant find any information about it... so what difference will it make is i install diodes in there.. ?

As i said before, i allready have a SPDT switch installed for clipping and it seems to work fine..

I think D3 and D5 are in series with D4 and D6

read this for info

Very interesting article.... so what i will do now is: Change the 250k gainpot to 500k (to get some more gain possibly), and i will install two 1N914 (D3 and D5) and see if that will give me some more gain and/or any different sound at all, the LED´s will still be there cus i will not remove or replace them yet..

Anyone think that will make any difference.. ?

Perkla

And now its done.. it was a big difference to add a 1N914 in D5 and D3 + replace the 250k gain pot to a 500k, i am very happy with this pedal now and i will not make any more changes or mods to it.

Soundclip (if i am allowed to post in in here ?)

well done m8!!!

and yes, keep it like it's now, no mods anymore! at a ceratin stage you need to enjoy your "creation"  :D

post the video also here (you can add the pedal's lables if you can edit your video  ;) )

Perkla

Yes i have posted a link in there now..

What did u mean about lebels.. ?

;)

nothing special, just that you are turning knobs and who's looking at the video doesn't know if you are adjusting treble, mid, gain or whatsoever !

Ohh i c.. i have been thinking about how to label this enclosure.. i dont know how... :S

Any ideas that are simple.. ?

Perkla

I have been thinking about what different it will make to replace the IC with a RC4558  ???

Even if i am happy with it as it is right now.. it would be fun to know if anyone have replaced the IC..

Perkla

So this is what the final product sounds like..  i have made some topsecret mods to it.. hahaha

Your build is intriguing!

What is the SPST clipping switch exactly? and I noticed that the section with diodes is different than the PCB at tonepad(which has no diodes apart from the two LEDs)

thanks

Thanx :D

Well, the switch is basicly a clipping switch between asymetric and symetric sound pattern, and yes this pedal have a very angry sound, i have made some other changes to this pedal to get some more gain out of it than the basic guvnor, i dont think its possible to get an more "angry" guvnor clone than this one..

What do u think about it ?

Perkla

This is what the circuit looks like now...

Im very interested in this so I'm a huge fan of guv'nor, I actually have an original but it craps out on sometimes, I think the pots are suspect. Now that I see this thread I think I will replace the pots anyway so I can add a 500k pot for more gain!

But the original guvnors don't have the extra diodes at all? Maybe I want to see if I want to add it to the circuit... though I hate to admit I have some nerd stigma about modifying vintage pedals.
EDIT: even despite the fact guvnors only vintage circa 1980something

I dont think u should mod a Marshall Guvnor... build a clone and make some mods and try out what u like most, and yes a 500k pot on the gain will give u a little more gain, and 2 more diodes to, and of course the SPDT switch as well, so.. just build one, its fun and not very $$$$   :D

I was thinking about trying 1N4001 for the clipping section.. now i use 1N914.. does anyone think it will be any different sound with the 1N4001 diodes ?

Perkla

So i just saw that the green clipping LED´s only are active in one mode on the clipping switch, so if i would not have a clipping switch i could choose what clipping section i would like to use, the diode section or the LED diode section... so is it possible to have both those sections active at the same time ? or is it only one at the time if the pedal are gona sound good ?

Hi perkla, nice video, huge amount of reverb though. Replacing the LED's with 1n4148 or similar will give a more distorted sound, harsher so to speak. LED's give a smooth crunch. I used to have one of the original Guv'nors when they first came out, great pedal.

Please at least have 1 forum post before sending me a PM demanding something.

Perkla

Been a long time since i posted anything here, for the past year i have been working on many different way to mod my version of Marshall Guvnor clone, its pretty much the same on the inside as my prototype.. but i made a great look out of the enclosure, and of course i made some changes on the clipping area as well..  this is what it looks like now, the finish product so to speak.
