So I figured a good way of introducing myself to these forums would be to show my build of the old Ace-Tone Fuzzmaster FM-2, appropriately renamed the Acetone Fuzz.

One notable change I made over the original design was the addition of a dry blend control, so now you can mix in the original input source. I made a few of these guys, planning on selling them and then going on to new projects  :)

Anyways... images:

Looks cool!  That's a great circuit. I like the one I made much better than the superfuzz I bread boarded.  I added a switch to go from Germaniums to Silicon(I think) diodes.  Don't care for the germs much but overall it's a monster sounding fuzz.  I also omitted the scoop since my go to scoop sound is with the FY2.

Gonna do a Bruno fuzz machine and then I will be done with superfuzz-esque circuits...

Welcome to the forum!

Now the price of admission is telling us how you did that finish...  ;)

Whatisnotrue

Well the finish was a "mistake", but I laquored the "mistake" (which was basically just sanding off a bad spray painting job) and achieved the result you see. I experimented a bit more with this technique on the two other clones I made and it's easily reproducible.

Looks great & a challenging build in my opinion. I built one and could never get it to sound very good. I would love hear a sound clip if you get a chance.
Well done and welcome.

^^^Thanks John ;D
That is a fuzzy one there. I used one of Pigeon's board for mine but have not been happy with the sound. I think I will try to lay it out myself and see what happens.
@whatisnotrue - What transistors do you have in there?

I actually made a newer video. My friend convinced me to do an introduction, myself included  :icon_lol: Regardless of how overly odd I think I come across I believe it's a much better video of the pedal. Check it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAHFgO2SaAs&feature=player_embedded

@ Pigyboy: I used 2N2222 Transistors, I am pretty satisfied with them however I might experiment with others soon. I want to mess a little more with the circuit in general, specifically with the tone and filter portion, just make it into something... wild (not that it isn't already!) ... maybe a switchable filter/boost  :)

Video sounds really awesome!! I'm definitely gonna breadboard this circuit. How'd you implement the dry blend control?

was the schematic posted anywhere?  I only have a link to the FM-1:

which is obviously nothing like this Superfuzz-like monster...

thanx

It was posted at uzzfay but the site may
be down. If you can't find it I may have it on my hard drive or can scan it for you.

every link I tried before with uzzfay in it was dead, like:

I will keep lookin, but if you have it on your hd and it's not too much trouble, posting it would be great.
you don't have to go thru the trouble to scan it, unless it's really easy...

thanx alot

i've saved it on my own site, so hopefully it won't go away now

Glad you found it!  It used to be one of my favorites. Definitely, breadboard it. I built 5 of them so far. I like the way it sounds without the clipping diodes, so on
my last one I put in a switch for germs, silicon, and none.  Germs are my least favorite. I think on the latest, I also have the tone switch to where it does no scoop or does the no scoop and scoop together.
