I have kicked this idea around for sometime and finally had a chance to try it.
not sure if you would call it a true mod or not...

I used the Echo Mic reissue, instead of Magic Mic.  Found it to have a tigher bottom end.
Used Generic Blue painters tape instead of the 3M.  Wanted less stick.
I left a 6 inch tail in case I needed to rip it off for the ripping solo.

Let me know if you have any questions.  I am glad to share with the forum.  Steve

LOL, that's great. My 6-year old just got a Magic Mic, and I've been dying to find a way to "borrow" it. (Holding it over the soundhole of an acoustic doesn't work.)

I'd always wondered if those toy echo mics could be re-purposed for diy simple spring reverb.  I think you may be on to something!  Love to hear how it sounds.  Does the tin foil affect the frequency much?  :D

I built a spring reverb (electronic) using the springs from those echo mics.

I think your use is more elegant.

oooh man, we bought my son a space phone:

this thing gets crazy reverb sounds, and if you flick the spring or wiggle it it makes awesome space laser noises.   ive been wanting to find a way to record vocals through it.  hadnt really thought about guitar.
