i mocked this up the other nite so my bro kevin could try and "roll his own"....added a simple diode clipper with 2 silicon and one mini led's...

his came out GREAT...mine, not quite as good...i think it's cuz he used a red led for his bypass led, and i used a green one.... ;D

my question....is there any tips anyone can give me to soften the diode clipping just a little bit?
i was thinking of adding a small cap and pot to the clipper itself, but aren't really sure how to do it...would they go in series or parallel with the clipper?

anyways, here's an abortion of a layout i tried to put together...there may be a couple mistakes, but it does seem to work pretty good....other than his sounding slightly better than mine!!!

sorry for the crappy graphic, i kinda cut and pasted some different things together...

wow, sweet, pretty much exactly what i was looking for in terms of info...looks like the diode clipper part would be crazy simple to implement, too...simple is GOOD for my newbe posterior!!  ;D

Firstly, I'd remove the silicon diode that's pointing in the same direction as the clipper LED. Because the silicon diode limits the voltage to around 0.7V, the LED probably isn't doing anything right now. Removing the silicon diode would mean that the LED would be clipping instead. Also, I'd throw in a 4.7n or 10n cap in parallel with the clipping diodes to cut down on high-frequency harmonics.

thanks cynicalman...maybe i'll hit rat shack and get some shotkeys and try them too. that link looks like it will be really useful!!

FUN!!

I have an LPB built that I never boxed because I just didn't need it for anything, looks like I'll be digging that out soon.

doubled up the silicons, still messing with the circuit...gave it a little more balls when the diodes are engaged, but still playing with it...stay tuned!
