Hey guys,

I'm looking to supply an opamp with + and - 9v with a single battery. My initial thought was to use an inverting charge pump; however, the seemingly most readily available IC (MAX1681) is only good with positive supply voltages up to 4.5v. In which case I can set virtual grounds and end up in the same place without the IC. I'm almost positive a 9v supply wont have the head room I'm looking for. Has anyone dealt with this before? Thanks!

A MAX1044 will do it:

If that's not available, you could use a voltage doubler for the supply and bias the op amp at 9V.

ICL7660S are pin-for-pin for the MAX1044 and cost about a third as much for ten on ebay from HK

Looks like the 1044 is exactly what I'm looking for. Should have checked R.G.'s site. Thanks!

Ya, but they dont have the frequency boost that the MAX1044 has. I've never been able to avoid the 5kHz whine they have.

7660S. 36kHz.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

LT1054

Oh, I didn't know about either of those. No more MAX's for me then. :)
