Help me with a Simple JFET booster

I want to make a simple permanent boost  inside my distortion pedal (the Vol is to low).

I plan to build a simple J201/2N5457 booster after the tonestack (its a guv'nor) and before the volume pot.
I want to make this as simple as possible without a board just solder the components point to point in a "lump"
wire it and stick it with hot glue to the wall of the pedal.

So I basically need the values of the source and drain resistors without using a trim pot.
Also do I need the coupling cap at the input or wire without it as a simple gain stage?
Is 1K Source and 10K Drain will be good for J201 (9V)?
Can I use the same values for 2N5457?

If anyone got a link to some good reading (simple and to the point like AMZ stuff) about jfets please post.

Thanks.

IIRC this'd be 'foolin' with Fets at GEO, Fetzer Valve at ROG...Jfets bias source above gate, and each one requires 'attention'.

"No current goes through a Jfet gate, making input cap unnecessary.

Which one..what do the notes say [see GEO/ROG for biasing info on Jfets @9v supply]

The bias needs of each Jfet vary from every other one.

The Jfet testjig will allow fitting circuit stage DC bias R values to particular Jfets, a bit of masking tape helps ID the Jfet under test.
