higher gain 2N5089

hi everyone
I'd need some 2N5089 with really high gain, let's say about 1000 or a bit less (the datasheets says that max is 1200).
All those I got are about 500-600, so it's not easy to find high values. I need that to match a circuit I have that uses 2N5089, and using transistor with 500-600 doesn't give me the same results at all!
so, what are the alternative for this transistor? (I tried 2n3904, 2n5088, and some other, but always less gain) I'm not a transistor expert  :(

  Take a couple to darlingtown, darlington-ize them.

could you please suggest me some with that gain in average? let's say 800-900 but I'd like to try some other too (1200, 1000, and so on). It's a circuit I have here but I can't measure transistor hfe since the transistor are not in sockets and I don't want to kill them with my solder iron (I tried to desolder them but no luck), so I need to try differents hfe. the circuit belongs to a friends and it doesn't match any fuzz project I've found so I can't use any previous suggestion  :-[

mpsa18 is supposed to be high gain low noise.  check it out.  ;_

Was also going to suggest MPSA18, but I still woudn't expect >800-900 hfe or so. They are very similar to 2n5089, if maybe more consistent. Anyone know offhand the gain of an MPSA13 darlington?

  Yupp, and you could MPSA your adress search bar and find a PDF PDQ.
  Faster than asking for someone to google for ya.
  Data sheets tell this kinda stuff...such as the user with schematic or other application reference can utitilize to see what Hfe'd actually be.
  If you want higher gains for something opamps offer gobs of it.
  Going to Darlingtown Data Sheet I saw 5g and 10grand hfe numbers posted on there and care I not know where they go, didn't read any further.
