I feel silly for asking this but is there a simple way to test a buffer without-

long and short cables? I just made my first layout in eagle (complete layout beginner)and I choose a simple buffer. I have no need for a buffer as I don't use a ton of effects or long cables, I just needed something very simple to layout? I made the layout and built it and it passes signal but my ears can't tell if there is any change to the signal if any. Is there any way I can test it other than whats mentioned above? Thanks for any help.

this is probably a dumb answer, but maybe stick it between a wah and a fuzz face and see if you can hear a difference.
if it's passing signal and your voltages check, out its probably working.

It's a buffer. It's not supposed to do much. If it passes a signal and you cant hear much of a difference (i.e. no weird distortion, no significant volume changes), it is doing its job.  :icon_biggrin:

You could stick a small capacitor -about 470pF- in parallel with the output signal. That would simulate an extra 5m of cable or so. Then try the same thing without the buffer and see the difference.

Thanks so much for the response everyone. Merlin, that worked out perfectly. Pretty apparent that the buffer is working.

Very cool, Merlin, very cool!
It's all about the tone!
