I'm trying to find out what type PCB material my father uses when he etches my board layouts. It's kind of a green translucent fiberglass type material. He says it's old stock probably from the 90's. I which there was a totally clear PCB material? You can't really see through the green stuff that clearly except you can detect the trace patterns below the component side, which I think looks cool like in this 'replica' PCB replacement image:

The stuff I got from Electronic Goldmine is very 'translucent' (thats what you probably mean). Enough so that you can shine light through it pretty well.

I imagine plexiglas wouldn't work that well... It would act like a dielectric material, causing unwanted charge buildup on the material. If ya take a metal plate on each side of a piece of plexi and measure the capacitance you might be suprised. Last time I tried it I got nearly 1nF with a couple 1in squares of aluminum.
Give a man Fuzz, and he'll jam for a day... teach a man how to make a Fuzz and he'll never jam again!

Hi.How can i make this pcb???

If you can find an actual-size image of the pattern, you can make your own board. There are several possible techniques, and my tutorials cover two of the most popular. See the How-Tos at smallbearelec.com. BUT: You should Not attempt to make your own board for a first build; the learning curve is too steep. If you want to build the Trosky Drive, pay Beavisaudio for the board and/or the kit.

its on plexyglass??
No. It looks like standard FR-4, which is an epoxy-fiberglass composite.

perhaps plexiglass would work but i don't think you can find a plexiglass sheet with a layer of copper underneath! ;D

...and Plexiglas will not hold up to the heat of soldering.  Very thin FR4 will probably look clear.

can i use copper tape to make the circuit lines??

defaced

I'd try it and see what happens.  That's half the fun of DIY.

yes - but you'll still need to drill for the components (don't know if you've ever tried to high speed drill plastic - but I suggest you try it...

and - you'll still need no solder said components to the copper traces - and as stated - plexiglass does not hold up to heat well at all....

i am thinking to put the copper tape on 2 sides of my transparent board.but i dont know if it is good or not for the circuit.

deadastronaut

that doesnt look like plexi to me...

the copper clad board i get is very translucent...after etching of course!.. :icon_wink:

I think translucent is better than clear anyway. It gives the PCB some asthetic character. Plus if you really want to show it off add some diffused lighting behind it.  :icon_idea:
