Neutron filter - various PCB layouts... which one to etch?

Hi everyone,

Beginner question, but I really appreciate your input.  I have found two layouts of the Neutron Filter by RG.  I would like to etch the newer version (dated 2002, found in the PDF from generalguitargadgets.com) but the picture in the PDF is raster (not vector) and does not print out at quality necessary for toner transfer.  The older version (from R.G. Keen's site Geofex) is sufficient for toner transfer.  So, I am wondering whether the newer version is sufficiently superior to warrant me not etching the old one, or whether someone out there has a newer layout of sufficient quality.

Differences: While they both have the same version # 1.01D, they are slightly different... the newer version gets rid of a jumper underneath an IC and adds a more complex ground trace to the outside of the board.  I know the getting rid of the jumper will just make board assembly somewhat easier, but I can only imagine that the expansion of the ground trace to go around the PCB mounting hole in a very deliberate fashion is purposeful (lower noise maybe, I have no idea)?

"Older" (dated 2001) available here: http://www.geofex.com/PCB_layouts/Layouts/neutronpub.pdf

"Newer" (dated 2002) available here: http://generalguitargadgets.com/projects/19-filters-envelope/112-geo-neutron-filter

Also, just FYI as previous threads have noted, it appears that the older version needs to be expanded (~115.384%) at printing in order for DIP components to fit.

Thank you very much.

The old one has worked many times, for many people. Built according to the article, it should give exactly the same performance.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
