Damn, they have the best online prices I've seen. Wish they had some mono 1/4" jacks. Definitely will be ordering from them in the future.

Those are all STEREO 1/4" jacks.

Sorry, didn't see your distinction :) I'm just glad they have 1/4" Jacks, I don't usually mind using stereo jacks instead of mono, it's the other way around thats a b*tch  :P

When they're that cheap, who cares?

They're mono again once you plug in a mono jack. You could literally cut the extra contact off with a hacksaw and end up with a mono. Or bend it away. Anything like that.

I don't like using stereo jacks when I don't have to because they are generally a lot harder to get the plug in and out of, almost to the point of annoyance. I like your hacksaw idea, but I'm not sure about trying to bend the extra contact out of the way. Have you ever actually tried to bend one? They are resilient little bastards! The one time I tried, it seemed like the jack would break before I ever got anywhere.

In the end I would much rather use the appropriate jack for the job. Saving an extra few cents just isn't worth it. Not worth it at all.

I'm a big user of Tayda.  Great cost/quality on caps, pots, sockets, ICs, tranisistors, and LEDs.  The quality of the jacks I bought from them leave alot to be desired.  I'd use them for prototyping, but not for "real" builds.

I'm very curious to hear about the quality of the stomp switches.

Have you tried all the three styles they have?
Seems like they have two types of open jacks (different manufacturers?) and some Marshall-type closed ones. Is the quality, or lack of it, the same across the range?

P.S. As  side note, I have previously emailed Tayda for components they do not usually stock and they were happy to quote a very fair price. They seem very flexible.

Not to diminish your opinion, because it is certainly valid.  But I actually feel the opposite way about stereo jacks.  During my time as a repair guy I learned a nice trick with using stereo jacks for mono and that is to wire the ring to the sleeve and that way you never have the loose jack ground problem that you hear so often on guitars because something is always in contact with ground, it's how I wire all of my guitars now.

Actually... never mind.  Looks like they changed their supplier for their stereo jacks - these I haven't tried.  They did at one point carry mono jacks, so I wonder if they're getting new mono jacks too.  Their old stereo/mono jacks look like the stereo switching jacks they carry now.

I actually prefer using open stereo jacks for the extra "holding power", when space is not an issue. I believe my last order was 100 pcs from Mojo. I have also bought 3PDTs from Weber and been happy. Both orders were quite awhile back, so don't know what they're charging now.

I see, so does this mean I shouldn't carry the switches anymore. Maybe I should plaster the forum with ads now, since everyone is jumping on some place else? All these years I just ask for one thing to try and purchase from the store to support the forum. This year may be the year to post ads... I've been fighting it since forever, but maybe people don't care.

Feeling a bit guilty for posting in this thread, I just donated $10 to diystomboxes.com, hope some others find it in their hearts to do the same especially those who orders 3PDTs from Tayda now ;)

Here's the url so nobody can say they don't know how to.

Boy, makes me feel guilty for starting this. I didn't mean to step on toes. Aaron (and Steve maybe?), maybe you could get ahold of Tayda and see if they'd work out some kind of partnership to carry some of their items specific to what we do, then everyone wins a bit.
Give a man Fuzz, and he'll jam for a day... teach a man how to make a Fuzz and he'll never jam again!

In the nicest possible way I'd much rather donate the difference than pay to get switches shipped from hawaii.

Which is what I've done.

When things are free to the end user (like this forum) it's easy for people to forget it costs money to maintain operations (pay for ISP/Domain costs etc). Having two domain names and a webspace provider I know how it feels to shell-out just under $200/year for web operating costs. That would be a lot of 3PDT switches to sell (if I sold 3PDT switches that is).

Ad's might be a long term answer, there are ways of doing it un-obtrusively finding a balance between free and paying the bills.

IMHO, the very 1st sticky at the top of the forum should be "How to help support this forum" not the DIY creator software, but that's just me.
(no offense to anyone)
