hey gyus, so I was messing around with the NPN boost (the beginner project) on a breadboard and it didn't work! nomatter how hard i tried. i did everything, checked it again and again, swapped the trannies and whatnot. the voltage was wrong i guess but i never found why. the gain pot didn't work either. i got at the point where i tried an unlabeled tranny and it gave me some distortion kind of thing but would crackle in the end of the notes and as i said the pot did no difference.
so i tried a LPB-1 booster. and while the thing worked fine the thing seemed to be clipping in side, not my amp. ok whatsoever. the question is is there any nice mod to an LPB-1 to fill up my drilled enclosure's empty hole. it's a 2 pot enclosure so i'm thinking of one pot and one switch.

any ideas are appreciated. also maybe there are some other, better boosts? i can't get my hands on any mosfte, so it's gotta be simple, npn or fet and not include many transistors please?

Tim Escobedo has a couple easy transistor boosts. Check out Boost-O-Rama and the Utility Boost pages.

runoffgroove's Omega. Built one into my Skyripper, in place of the Rangemaster circuit, it's great. Like a Rangemaster, but with a tone knob. Actually, almost nails the Rangemaster tone as well.

Circuit is here; http://www.runoffgroove.com/omega.html . I can cut out the Omega part of my Skyripper vero, and post it if you like. Low parts count, but there is a mod at the end of the circuit to prevent the Master pot from producing any scratchy noises when being turned. If you copy the diagram directly, you risk a noisy pot. Got the fix from John Lyons. Works like a charm.

2 pots, and a switch. Should fill out your enclosure nicely.

ah either of those seems out of my reach. the parts i mean. pots are quite a hassle here but ill try to get the 250k pot for boost-o-rama

as for omega. I guess you can omit the mosfet buffer by placing a 100k from the Drain to the output pot bypassing the 33k and 68k resistors. I'll be having a TL071 buffer in the box always on so i dont need an additional buffer (especially when i can't get a mosfet). the question is where shall i put the buffer: at the input or the output?

and finally is it possible to omit the range knob (i don't think I can get 500k pot here) and put there a full signal boost/fat(or treble) boost switch?

and trimpots here being about 2 bux each (!) I'll rather put a pot there and bias it to my liking then replace the pot with a fixed resistor.
Ima try doing all this in LTspice (still trying to get the hang of it  :icon_rolleyes: ) but answers here might be more than helpful :)

I know I just don't have a credit card. ordering via paypal is a pain in the ass in my country so im waiting for some more stuff to build up in my to buy list so that i can buy it all at once you know :)

anywaysi jsut breadboarded the Stratoblaster from GGG and it sounds really neat I'm loving it! now the thing is, i have 2 holes on the enclosure for pots. i want to put a switch in there, will this make much sense with stratoblaster? http://www.muzique.com/news/mini-booster-fat-and-fatter/
