zoMbie Priest!!?!

hi all, i am so damn new  :D

ok, i am going to attempt my first pedal build, which will be the RED LLAMA clone (Way Huge overdrive guitar effects pedal)  ...

i am gathering up the various caps, but cant seem to find many of the values.  below are the caps i need, and then below that are the caps i plan to use. can someone check it to see if i am likely to get away with this, or if what i am doing is bad/wrong, in which case, any suggestions would be great:

HERE ARE THE CAPS NEEDED FOR THE PEDAL:

AND BELOW, HERE ARE THE CAPS I CAN GET.... so, are these caps below ok for me to use?

C1: WIMA 68nf (i can use a WIMA here i hope? .. i warned u already i am noob haha)
C2: 100pf Ceramic Cap (two of them wired in series to make 50pf?)   (or INSTEAD, should i simply use a 47pf cap?)
C3: WIMA 68nf (two of them wired in series to make 34nf...can i do that, or is that just wrong/bad?..assuming i am allowed to use WIMA here)
C4: I DON'T HAVE ONE OF THESE, CAN I USE SOMETHING ELSE INSTEAD, OR MUST BE 330uF?
C5: i have a 100pf Ceramic Cap
C6: i have an Electrolytic 10uF Cap

if anyone has any advice or suggestions, it would be great. many thanks from the zombie priest     (cue spooky music...)

Welcome ;D

Now for the info:

C1) 68nF is EQUAL to .068uF so you are good there. WIMA will be OK.
C2) I would go with the 47pF. You can use the 10% rule. As long as you stay within 45 to 55pF you should not notice anything different.
C3) Refer to C2
C4) This is a power conditioning cap. You MIGHT be able to get away with a 220uF cap but I would stick with the 330uF.

Good Luck with the build  ;)

The WIMAs in series for C3 would be fine.
For C4, a 470uF would work.

thanks for those responses, this seems like a great forum if i can say that

ok so far then it appears i need to do it this way then:

C1: WIMA 68nf Cap (0.068uF)
C2: 47pf Ceramic Cap (i dont actually have a capacitor tester so will have to hope i get lucky and get a good one then!)
C3: WIMA 68nf Cap (0.068uF) x2 wired in series
C4: 470uf Electrolytic Cap (hopefully i wont notice too much of a difference in operation/sound?)
C5: 100pf Ceramic Cap
C6: 10uF Electrolytic Cap

by the way guys i plan to use a 9VDC regulated power adapter instead of a battery, can i just wire in a 9V socket instead of the battery clip, and not need to change/add anything?

Yup. However, power adaptor jacks aren't usually switched based on whether there's something plugged in. This diagram shows a battery so it does have that switching. To change that, just wire the power negative lead directly to ground instead of to the ring lug on the input jack. If you do that, then you can use a mono input jack instead of a stereo jack.

+1. If you plan to ONLY use a DC wall wart or power adapter to power this pedal then you don't need to worry about draining your power source.

excellent, i think i will go with the mono jacks x 2 then!   :D

yo any1 still about  :icon_surprised:

it doesnt mattter which type of resistors (eg. the blue ones, the standard creme coloured ones, etc)  i use does it? (ie. there wont be a big difference in say, noise levels?)

i'm not bothered about slight differences, but if there are big differences between using the different resistor types (for this circuit), i'd def be interested to know!

CynicalMan

If you're not worried about slight differences, then don't worry about it. Technically, metal film resistors (generally blue) are slightly less noisy than carbon film resistors (generally beige or green), but it's such a tiny difference that it shouldn't be an issue.
