Idiot Wah

After looking into some of the twin-T type wah circuits I've taken a liking to the Idiot Wah for my "static wah" box - Tim Escobedo does some great work and the components are pretty common compared to some of the inductorless wah's values.

But I couldn't track down a vero so here's a first pass at the layout - I have to do another check over it before I'm happy but it seems to be about right:

Bearing in mind I've not been at this caper for too long it may have some mistakes there.

I note that he mentions that a bias of the MPSA13 can reduce distortion... let us say I'm playing with the idea of having this circuit intentionally distort a little (rather than be clean and shiny) would I be looking at dropping the value of the 10K at the base of Q1 a little or..?

Passed the double check, excepting that C3 should have been 220pF.
Will see how it comes up and post a corrected layout soon.

i would say this is worth breadboarding first. to get what values you like...and to see what its like on bypass levels too before you build it....

ive tried a few wahs on breadboard and some just dont cut it.. either freq wise (which is down to taste)

or volume/bypassed wise...(which is essential)..

however i havent tried this one...(which i will)......but it could breaded in about 10 minutes... :icon_wink:

You have a point, breadboard I don't have... but for the other cheap noobs out there/in here I have a workaround...

Do up the vero and for all the parts that might actually have an impact on tone/sound of a circuit socket them and plug/play with different values. Then when you're happy go from there. Simple I know - but some peeps don't think of these things. For these builds, and most of my hookup wire I actually grab the PC Wake-on-LAN or the CD to audio cables and cut the three pin connectors off with some lead to play with for the prototypes and get a bunch of half way decent wire from the rest!

But yeah - now all I need to do is work out what I need to increase if I decrease something as a good learning experience in this type of circuit.

Built the Idiot Wah using this layout and caught a couple more errors, so I figured I would post the corrections here so anyone using it will be aware of the problem. The transistor is oriented the wrong way (at least for my MPSA13s), and there is a trace cut missing just before the output (which is what was causing mine to not "wah"). Also put the correct 220pf on the layout as well  ;D

cross post alert, i pulled this one out of mothballs, my take on the idjut wah:
my life is a tribute to the the great men and women who held this country together when the world was in trouble. my debt cannot be repaid, but i will do my best.

mm, well i got the circuit from this site
http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/escobedo-idiot-wah.html

has a good you tube video showing what the effect dose and sounds
Made it and just seems to pass right by it
so i need to recheck the SMALL circuit
also notice there is a difference in values and bits

Thanks!! Now i can build my very first wah pedal (although the prev posted it sound like "wow")

Ive been searching for a simple wah pedal but cant find one..

The most complicated pedal that i ever built was crunchbox..
