Is there a way to square a guitar input signal so that it can be fed into a digital IC? Specifically, the CD40106?
I have found a few circuits that square signals, but what is the easiest / quickest way?  Doesn't need to be hi-fi

??? a square audio wave is a distorted wave. If you just want to set a trigger, don't worry about square waves, The chip will trigger when the signal rises and falls.

I want to send instruments, a keyboard or guitar, through a small synth I have made from a 40106 (schmitt triggers).
Would it be possible to hook up an envelope follower to the voltage in of the triggers?  I wonder what that would do.

Basically I'm just trying to figure out how to send any signal through this synth.
