ABY help, transistor heats up

I built an ABY from general guitar gadgets.

The transistor heats up, signal does not pass, and the LEDs do not light up. What would be your first guesses? I think the transformers are right, the primaries are on the left side.

I don't see any transistors there. What heats up? The MAX1044?

If so it's likely a short on the -9V.
Doh. Yep, I see it now.

A soldering/wiring defect is shorting the **+9V**.  Check carefully for solder shorts, wiring problems, and ICs inserted backwards. If that doesn't do it, read "Debugging: what to do when it doesn't work" and post back.

Oh, well it might have helped if I had the transistor in the picture!!! It go's in that empty socket. I am a moron, I had two batteries hooked up and that was putting the transistor in breakdown. Now it works great !!!
