Powdercoat as primer

Does anyone have any experience with using rattle-can paint over powdercoat? My local electronics store has started stocking both unfinished and powdercoated boxes. There's a $2 price difference. I was wondering something...

Since 1) primer is never the same color as final topcoat anyway, and 2) since chips in a rattle-can finish seem to go down to bare metal (therefore, problems in primer adhesion seem to be the weak spot), and 3) since powdercoat is pretty damn tough, why not buy precoated boxes and spray final colorcoat over that?

It seems like paint would adhere to powdercoat pretty well, especially after a little scuffing. These finish on these boxes is nice and thick and level, so a minimum of prep work would be necessary. My least favorite part of finishing a box is the prepwork on the bare aluminum. I usually quit long before I'm proud of what I've done. But a once-over with some 220 wet-dry sounds like a piece of cake. And $2 seems like a small price to pay to buy locally and not have to do all that heavy sanding.

Any thoughts?
