Well, it's a holiday Monday here. Got a hot cup of java, and I'm loafing through Ebay, when I come across this...

Never seen one before, but the little video kinda knocked my socks off... and I'm barefoot! Someone PLEASE tell me that a diagram exsists for this somewhere.

There is a project for the Dipthonizer, and if this is just a manual version of that then this can totally be done.

Sounds very much like the "Talking Filter" setting on the Tone Core Otto Filter and modeller pedals. Probably also covered by the recent EHX pedal.

The PCB in the vocalizer looks much simpler than the dipthonizer board. Should be an interesting build if anyone can come up with a schematic. (There is a thread for the dipthonizer project at FSB.)

That's what I noticed as well. And the foot control is what grabs me as well. Have to find a schem of this sucker.

EHX does have it's Talking Machine, with an expression input for the sweep. But that would be too easy

after a lot of reading about it and hearing all the demo's I would have to say that it is similar to any q-tron style effect. it only differs in that it has settings to make it into a vowel filter. its two bandbass or low pass filters in parallel with the resonant peaks at different frequencies. its close enough to a qtron that I probably wont go through all the trouble for this big build.

Jimi has a demo in this thread, http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=92202.100 . BUT... we don't believe it's working correctly yet, because it does not respond properly with the pot wired as per the schematic. It may be because the CA3080 is damaged, we're not sure yet. Even though, it's promising, because you can hear that it's pretty vocal, even if it's wired (possibly) wrong.

It's just a PITA not having a clip or video of an original to compare to, so we're flying blind here

the schem is absolutely wrong tho...one or the other side of the 22k pot needs to be grounded, or the circuit doesn't work.

dino...tried to get a couple of the chips today, no dice...gonna be at least a week before i can get it up and running again. messing with it last nite to re wire it broke it. it's AFU at the moment.

docnomis at the other forum offered me some chips, he's mailing them to me...gonna also order a couple off evilbay...and we'll see what gets here first.

i went over the nte996 last nite, compared datasheets...pin out is the same as the 3080e, and all the numbers are close enough for rocknroll.

stay tuned bud...the plan is to re-wire as per stock schematic, video, re-wire with pot grounded, video, and then re-wire to what i did, which as you heard last nite over the phone seems to be the only way it actually works.

i don't think i blew the 3080...if i did, the effect couldn't work at all i don't think. i replaced the other chip, but that made no difference at all. we'll see.

wired as per schematic, is a very weak effect that barely works. add a ground wire, and it does work, but not well...probably why it was discontinued. wired as i described it works great...you heard it...but it's very much in the wah school. i don't think one side of the ca3080 is cooked tho, cuz it's not a dual chip, each side is integral to it...check a datasheet bro.

like i said, we'll see...which ever chip gets here first gets installed.

Got the schem over on the other Vocalizer thread. I only have PCB layouts though. Haven't found a vero of it yet, but it's on my list/

dude, i LOVE your pedals. the schem is confirmed, but there's some question about how the hell it's supposed to work. messing with it, i've found it can be wired any number of ways!!

i just had a thought...maybe it's gotta have the pin 1 of the sweep pot tied to the ground of the pot's case?

bah...i need to step away from the pedal for a little while...lol
