Problem with Phase 45 clone from General Guitar Gadgets

This is a problem that probably a lot of you know how to solve or at least what to look for.
I looked through the "debugging" thread and have a clear idea of what you guys want.

I get my guitar when the pedal is off but when it is on I get no signal. The LED works and both the DC jack and battery snap work.
This is the phase 45 PCB from GGG, not the kit. I bought the parts from small bear.

I have made no modifications to the circuit at all. Right from the layout.
No ground conversions made.

What could be the problem? Is it a circuit board problem or is it a wiring problem? If it's a wiring problem then which points could it be?

Thanks for all your help!

Good!

Could you then add the other information the Debugging thread asks for? That will provide the data so we can help you.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Ok I get the guitar signal when the pedal is on, but I don't hear the phase effect at all.

Hi Verdis

The info you've put in above is useful - but more is needed.  The dubugging thread also calls for VOLTAGES - and once you've built a few pedals (and, if like me: failed to get them to work first time!) you'll find that these are critical to a fast and easy debug.  Take some readings, pop them up here (being sure to get any IC and transistor orientations correct) and we'll see what we can come up with...

I shelved this a while ago. Didn't work properly but want to bring it back from the dead. Good luck matching the jfets! Let us know how you go!

I just built a phase 45 also using the board from GGG.  I had the same problem- no phase effect, which was caused by having the transistors put in backwards.  I used 2n5952 transistors (which I matched using the JFET matcher described on the GEO website). The instructions on the GGG website indicated that 2n5952s might have to be installed backwards from the board orientation.  I tried them backwards but there was no phase effect.  I put them in oriented according to the board layout and it works beautifully.

Ok I now have all the correct components and I get signal from the phaser when it is on but I do not get a phase effect. Instead of having a phaser effect I get the same guitar signal but with more treble and less bass. The speed knob does not work either when the effect is on. The Ic's are in the right order with the circles on both of them facing away from each other.

You will get so much more help if you provide the debugging info asked for.
If it ain't broke...   ...it will be soon.

Sometimes someone will sidestep the issue of measuring voltages because they don't have a meter.

Meters can be had for under $10.

But it is unlikely in the extreme that problems like this can be debugged and fixed without one.

just to let you know.

ive  built it twice as it is, from GGG LAYOUT the circuit is fine ok..
