Dan Echo no delay but produces delay with stronger signal

Hi i have a problem with my dan echo.i could get delayed output if my input is strong but still not a clean out,it's like a fading sound or kind of starved supply sound.Used with single coil pickup and no delayed out but with humbucker i can get delayed out but faint sounding.I checked the power supply and it only use 5v from it's 5v regulator.Is this normal with only 5v supply?I traced it from the battery source and from battery it goes only to that regulator.I cant find schematic.The delay(time) is fine.Anybody could help? thanks

What is the voltage of the power supply, before it gets to the regulator?

9v from either battery or adaptor.It just confused me why only 5v used.
