QuantumDrive Distortion?

From an ebay ad:

"This is Acoustic Imaginearing's flagship pedal that uses a patent pending process to distort the sound by means of quantum mechanical tunneling. By using this process, electrons can tunnel though a barrier at a much more sensitive level than using standard diode distortion. This process also allows the waveform to enter a region of negative resistance, which is unlike any other distortion pedal on the market."

Anyone ever attempt to figure out this pedal? Is this something like a Tube Screamer with tunnel diodes or something?

Only asking out of curiousity is all.  :icon_wink:

Whatever it is, it doesn't really sound all that different (from clips, anyway) than a whole host of other things.  That certainly doesn't mean it isn't a clever way of doing what it does.  But certainly what it does is something I've heard a zillion times before.

I think their angle is that it's supposed to be super "touch sensitive" or something like that...

Is Mike Mathews involved in this venture?  Also, is it just me or does anyone else smell burning rope?  8)

Aren't they all?
If a person wants "touch sensitive", just take out the damn tube rectifier and stick diodes in place of it, turn down the gain, and crank the master volume.

I would worry about quantum entanglements, then you could create distortion in someone else pedal. ...

actually, i think i have seen a schematic for a pedal using one oh those, although it was part of the switching/battery check section.

I'm holding out for the Superposition-Drive
it has lots of options

That thread looks like it's pretty much talking about what Acoustic Imaginearing says about its pedal. I wonder if they got the idea from this forum?

No, that thing existed when I posted that originally, I linked it in the first post of that thread. I wonder if Jasper ever got anywhere with that, it was interesting.

I built the quantum drive distortion, and at the same time- I didn't ...  :icon_eek:

that pedal definitely did not exist until someone at this forum observed it

I'd be unsure of gigging with this pedal.  :icon_rolleyes: <sorry>

Surely the most important part of any OD / Distortion box is not the Op-Amp / Mojo / Manufacturer's Hype / Diodes kintted from Superman's underpant fibres etc, but the filtering?

Sure - the diode itself is clever, but in this application, will it make *that much* difference?

once you observed it, you can not be sure it still works, as you changed it...

I was just going to say, unless you're hell bent on edging into microwave frequencies with your stomp box, it is sort of overkill.

Then again, that might be a useful pedal to use on hecklers.
