Hey ya'll... havin a heck of a time trying to fit the GGG pcb into a 1590BB enclosure... i'm using a dual-gang pot for clean/fuzz blend, and along with the 3pdt toggle, the board only fits on a very precarious angle.

My question... are there any transformer substitutes that are a bit smaller than the 42TM018, or has anyone eliminated the transformer altogether? Curious to hear thoughts before i get a chance to play.

As far as I know, any 1:1 transformer with the same specs for resistance/inductance should work the same.  Plug you values into the mouser filters and check out the sizes of the results.

Also: You could mount the transformer on another small pcb and put it in a different part of the enclosure with leads running between the boards.
