Can anyone direct me here?  I really want a chorus pedal for my bass rig, but I also really want to build it myself.  I've seen schematics floating around for the Boss CEB2 but I don't know what some of the op amps and other ICs are.  I'm also not sure if it can be made to be true bypass (though my initial inclination is to assume yes).  Does anyone have any other suggestions for me?

Much appreciated.

I put my Bass through a Tonepad Small Clone copy.

Sounds great 'stock', although you may want to increase the input / output caps (fairly standard when using any pedal for Bass I guess...).

Clear, well laid-out board too.

I have a modded BOSS CH1 (I think) on my board-it's one of the lesser liked BOSS pedals (righly so) but I seem to remember the mods actually make it quite close to a CE-1, but lower. I really like it now. Best bass chorus I've had, excepting a whammy in detune mode (which is a different beast altogether) The pedal should be available second-hand for a steal, I can open mine up if you want and document what I did to it..
*edit* WARNING: the CH1 has been redesigned into digital apparently - you'll want an analog one.
From BossArea:
" If the second letter/first number combination is earlier than P1, you have the analog type."

The Little Angel works quite good on bass too...

From what I've seen from schematics, the Little Angel looks the easiest.  Can you describe your experiences with it on bass?  Did you modify it at all?  This is something I plan on building myself so I'd like to know my time put in is well worth it.

Thanks in advance,

Also, has anyone tried running a bass through a BYOC chorus pedal?

Renegadrian

I run it stock and it's quite good, maybe bigger in/out caps would be an easy and positive mod. go with 1µ or more.

Adriano knows his stuff pretty well. If he says that the Little Angel is good for Bass.... I would take his word for it.  ;)

Anyways.... you would be looking at shelling out a lot more dough for the parts to build a CE-2B than you are for a Little Angel  ;D

Glad to have such a reputation! But yeah as things are too subjective, what's good for me could be not so good for others, there is not only one truth!!! but only my humble opinion based on my personal experience...thx!!!

Sorry I am not able to record anything right now...Else I'd do it just for the records!!!

Out of curiosity, as I'm pretty new to this.  What constitute in/out caps?  Are they the ones closest to the input/output respectively (as one would think)?

If so, according to this diagram there's one 0.1uf cap near the input and two 0.1uf caps both relatively close to the output.  Should I change all three?

Also according to the same wiring diagram, both pots have a connection that reads N/C, I feel like that means no connection, but I'd like to be certain.

Renegadrian

Yes, the one on the left is the input and the two on the right are for straight and "delayed" signal AFAIK. So you may want to change all 3. NC stands for non connected yeah!

Thank you all so much, this thread has been horribly helpful!
