hi everyone,

im new to the forum, so i hope im not going to ask too many questions!

im currently in the process of building my first pedal, im looking at building the clone of a super hard on.

I have a copy of a schematic on diy layout creator, and i am currently trying to order parts but i have a couple of problems and I was hoping someone could help me out!

the parts list I have is as follows:

Case
3PDT switch
2 1/4" stereo jacks

resistor list is:
R1 = 100R
R2 = 5,1k
R3 = 10MR
R4 = 10M
R5 = 47k ( i can replace this with a 100k LOG pot for a master volume)

1 of each

Capacitor list:
C1 = 100uF
C2 = 0,1uF
C3 = 10uF

1 of each

a BS170P

and a Zener 1N757 9.1v 0.5w

now I am having great difficulty finding the following parts from that list:
Zener 1N757 9.1v 0.5w
BS170P
10MR
0,1uF

I am in the uk, and i was using www.doctortweek.com for the parts, and i cant seem to find these anywhere.

are there alternatives or is there something I am missing, this is my first project and it seems fairly straight forward, and I feel confident about completing it once I finally get all the parts.

any help with this is greatly appreciated!

also if anyone has this schematic - is this the Zvex clone version? or am I missing something? I love the program because it shows it on Veroboard and even gives me the list of tracks to cut to make it easy.

Vince

thank you so much for that.

so I take it the 10MR and to 10M are the same?

as you can tell im pretty new to all of this, i feel confident I can build it no problem, but im a bit nervous at the moment, incase I totatlly blow it!

Are you sure that "10MR" is really what is written on the schematic that you are using? 10M stands for 10 Mega ohm and 10r for 10 ohm but 10MR looks like a mistake to me. Maybe you can post a link to the schematic that you are using.

kenyanscott

ill take a screenshot of the schematic and show it to you

thats the information i have, if some of it is wrong, please let me know so i can make amendments to it

Barcode80

It's a typo. It's 10M.

Also, that is a layout, a schematic is something else.

kenyanscott

ah sorry thats my misunderstanding on that.

it should be okay to use that to build the veroboard though, as long as I order all the correct parts?

Yes

When you will have built it, let us know how it went.

You will have to find an other source for the zener diode but it should't be hard.

I believe that for this circuit a 12V zener will work just as well. It's there to protect the BS170 input.

Bringing you yesterday's technology tomorrow.

kenyan...

if in the uk, take a look at  bitsbox...great cheap place for stuff too.... :icon_wink:

does great deals on resistor packs etc.....

:that vero layout is massive...could be a lot lot smaller!.. :)

Is there a way I can condense the size of the board?

I'm looking at the website and it's much cheaper than doctortweek,

yep..you could get it much smaller than that..wheres the schematic?

i take it you are using version 1 of the diylc?

have you tried version 3...its much better for editing your vero layouts..version 1 is a pain in the ass if you want to move any traces etc...v3 is a lot friendlier/easier to use

and yeah..bitsbox is cool..for us in the uk .... :icon_cool:

edit: googled it...and found an updated..smaller version.. ;)

That's great, you guys have been so helpful so far! I really appreciate all the help.

I'm gonna Order the parts tonight.

Would I be rIght in saying I need to order a 1 x mono 1/4 jack and 1x stereo 1/4 jack?

I'm gonna put a 3pdt switch on it too so I'm gonna need to work out how to wire that too, but I don't think it will be too hard!

deadastronaut

you only need a stereo jack if you are going to use a battery...

if not get 2x mono's...ok.

oh and welcome!.. ;)

as for wiring...this is a good wiring setup/tutorial for ya... :icon_wink:

I cant wait to get started, my wife thinks it's hilarious that I'm gonna try and build it myself, until I explained if it works I'll have saved over a hundred quid!

until you spend that "savings" experimenting and learning mistakes..
I have found that the first pedal can cost X2 what it should, its not until your 3rd or 4th that you start to save, as you think about all the mistakes you made on the first..

same with amps..

someone fancy reading over my parts list before i click buy just to make sure ive ordered all of the right parts?
ive ordered them all from Bitsbox in the uk, really good prices for parts I think! ive ordered a breadboard too so I can test it all before I start assembling and making cuts that I could potentially mess up.
