This is my first effects pedal build, I have all the materials written up except for one thing, something to put it in!
so while I wait for some parts and money to come in, I thought I'd look at some pictures of the original, and I decided that I want to put it in something that looked very close to it.
I drew this up in a couple hours by looking at images and some footprints of that matter.

does anyone know how accurate my sketch is? It looked fine on the screen, but once I printed it out It seemed a little small.

Derringer

would you build that out of sheet metal?

I would assume so... unless there is another, easier, way?

cacarver

Sheet metal can be tough to work with. There are similar enclosures I've seen on eBay made out of plastic. I know that's not ideal but could look good with some paint.

I see lots of enclosures on ebay and the rest of the net... but nothing what I'm quite looking for, got any links to an enclosure that's close to the original..?
thanks! ;D

Has anyone ordered a PCB clone from Pigeon Fx? They are located in the UK and shipping is free worldwide.
I came across their site while educating myself about pcb's.

Here is the address http://pigeonfx.com/kits.html

trent1542

Well since nobody has any info on PigeonFx, I thought I'd draw up the wiring for my SuperFuzz.

How's it look? Any mistakes/errors/other?? Thanks!

Derringer

are you going to etch the board yourself?

if so, here's a schem and a pcb layout

I was originally, but then I found a website that sells a clone of the pcb, so I was planning to get it from here: http://pigeonfx.com/kits.html (4th one from the bottom)

I was looking at pictures of a Super-Fuzz pcb and on this particular image, I noticed a .001uf capacitor on the underside (etched side) of the pcb!

Is that usually there or did somebody put that there like a modification? Is it necessary?

I have an original purchased in 1970 - PCB matches your pic - except no capacitor underneath.

slacker

That cap is the one in parallel with the 47k resistor going to the collector of the first transistor, you can see it on the layout and schematic here. http://members.fortunecity.com/uzzfay/superfuzz1/superfuzz1.html#sf1pdb

Some versions of the schematic don't have that cap and some have it as a different value.

ok thanks guys, now my question is the capacitor completely necessary for it to function right?
Maybe I should order an extra one when I start to assemble it and see if it has different tonal qualities, thought I doubt it.

Derringer

that cap is not 100% necessary
but I would try to do the build with it because it'll help the octave be ever so slightly more pronounced

wow thanks! that is exactly the info I needed to know about that cap!
Hopefully funds will finally transfer to my paypal tomorrow so that I can order the rest of the pieces for this build!   ;D

trent1542

just a little update...
Everything has arrived! Except for the PCB from PigeonFx, which isn't unexpected as it's shipping from the UK.
Can't wait to start putting it together!  ;D
