Hello

I´ve built the ultra clean 9VDC power supply with the LM317 for the purpose of getting 3 9VDC out. The problem is i first built it but didint properly enclosed it ( just used a plastic box) and only make it available for one output source ( only one 9VDC output connector). It worked great, tested it and compared with other cheap 9V power supply and it got lower noise.
Now the problem is i got all the parts i needed to get it all pretty, a metal box, 3 9VDC 2.1mm female connectors ( to use with hand made 2.1mm male connectors cables). So i did all the soldering and when i tried it i got a lot of noise ( and hum) from it that i didnt got early.
I think there might be something with grounding. What i did was:

I wanted anyones opinion of wht might be the problem. I suspect i need to resolder every GND to the GND point of the board, and do the same with the 9VDC.
Can anyone advise me?

What have you done with the metal tab of the lm317?
This is internally connected to the output pin. Make sure it can't come into contact with anything.

Did you put it in a box with a transformer inside?

I am using an unregulated 15VDC wallwart to power my UCPS and it works perfectly.
It has just one output with a cheap DC 5 plug cable.

Ground loop from non-isolated outputs?

Most likely cause.

Are you testing with your 3 fx plugged in? When you tried previously were the same 3 fx powered up together?

Remove each one in turn to find the noisy unit.

For totally clean power for each fx you would need each output having it's own regulator, rectifier and transformer winding.

Ok thanks for the advice, but silly me it wasnt the power supply. The problem is with the marsha ruby amp that i was powering.
Anyway thanks for all your help.
