I was thinking of making this pedal as my next project. Did anyone else try this? And what did you think if so?  :icon_neutral:

I made the board 2 strips smaller because the original had 2 unused ones (I like it as small as possible), and I removed the 2.2k resistor for the led.

I hate trying to decipher layouts instead of schematics, but it looks to me like this started as an electra distortion and then some mods were made.

Either I'm reading it wrong (possible) or a mistake was made somewhere along the way. The output in the electra should be from the junction of the diodes and cap in the lower right corner. Can't really understand what's up with the vol and tone controls in the image you posted.

Ok, I drew up a schematic from your layout, and I understand now.

Here's the schem.

So, you just forgot to draw the wire from the diodes to your volume pot.

You could change the tone cap and move the tone wires around and have a Stupidly Wonderful Tone control, which would offer more range and more even volume.

The transistor is backwards, I believe.
Give a man Fuzz, and he'll jam for a day... teach a man how to make a Fuzz and he'll never jam again!

I updated the schematic. I've got the flue at the moment so I'll blame that! :icon_mrgreen:
I'm going to socket the 2n3904 so I can always turn it around.

[edit]
2n3904 is indeed backwards. I'll update the schematic.

What value tone cap do you recommend? And how should I change the wires?
Sorry for my ignorance, I'm still learning! (although I'm 28 and should've done that years ago  :icon_mrgreen:)

I modified it when I saw the Lavache from Mad Bean Pedals. I added their shape control.
Does this make complete sense?:

John Lyons

You already have the set of diodes on the board.
You should take those off in order to use the shape
switch. Otherwise you have a set of symmetrical diodes
conducting all the time.

It is done in the same way as the schematic from Mad Bean. ( Link )
I agree it looks a bit weird but I could always undo it.

HOTTUBES

What is this pedal layout , an overdrive ? or Distortion ?

Won't the schottky diodes conduct before the silicon diodes, when they are switched in?

P.S. Taylor, that java circuit program is very nifty and fast to use. Never seen that before.
Once I figured out how to work it, I set up this electra circuit in about a couple of minutes.
However, I use linux, and I've had trouble exporting, and copying from that window, even links. Does it export properly a completed circuit on a windows box?

Taylor

Yes, I exported the above circuit (though it wasn't set up for actual simulation, I just used it as a quick schematic) on a PC.
