Altering a schematic. need ideas.

Its the Black Cat OD-1. I don't want to keep it exactly the same, and would like to add a potentiometer somewhere to add more tonal variation. I had originally planned to replace one of the Bias resistors with a pot, but I was in the end, more or less, advised against that. I have already changed the OP amp, at the recommendation of a friend, with a similar but not exactly the same one. Still I want to squeeze out more tonal variety if I can.

Just copy one from an existing circuit. Big Muff Pi is a popular one.

You could also try out some diode clipping. You should breadboard it and try things out.

Funny... I wrote a reply to this but it's not here... anyway, yeah I linked to Muzique, look at some schems that use tone stacks, get the breadboard out and experiment.

You could also add diode or cap blends, it's all on Muzique.

thanks for the advice guys. Toggling between a three band EQ and a tone stack, maybe both, but that just sounds redundant...

That tonestack will always have a mid cut, but you can mod that out. Using 10nF for both caps and 47k for both resistors works well. Check out this program for trying out various values:
