I didn't even strip it. I just gave it a base coat of flat white and swirled it. Then some spray polyurethane. It came out smooth.

GOOD LUCK.  It was a major PITA to strip that textured finish on my turkeyday entry. It was totally smooth though.

stripping a crybaby shell is 100% dependant on when it was made. since the mid 90s, dunlop's process has been extremely robust. before that, there were periods , both dunlop and thomas where the finish was very poorly bonded to the metal. other times it bonded very well.

as my pictures attest, i happen to like the ones where the finish chips off in big chunks. paint pony style.

I wasn't fortunate enough to get an easy to strip shell. It took about an hour and a half with the ole flapper wheel.

Haven't posted pic's in awhile. The first one is a Thomas Organ vox wah with TB, new pot (not the one you see in the pic) and 9V adapter. I also made a few tweaks to the board even thou it looks stock.
The other one is a GGG layout with the same mods as the vox. It also has a hand wound inductor that I wound. All in all. Just simple wahs. Nothing to fancy.

joegagan

nice clean builds. i like the dpdts.

I don't care what the Thomas Organ Co. says, Joe.
YOU are Mr Crybaby.;)
Mockingbird wish me luck.

Nice...Where do you get your tread material?

thanks guys. by the way, these are not true bypass from the factory. i weave one extra wire into the loom and plug into the connector, with a sneaky jumper under the board. there are also other mods underneath.

just sold two of these on ebay.

the tread is cut from  a 'deep' mud floormat for cars from target. last i checked, they weren't carrying that type any more. i guess car floor mats are like fashion, if they aren't in this year's spring collection, they're OUT>

that's pretty Damn cool, true bypass without changing the switch?
I can't tell from the picture,  is that cap soldered to one end of a resistor?
Mockingbird wish me luck.

joegagan

no, the switch is changed as well. although you would be amazed, i have seen some recent made dunlops with a carling dpdt still wired the old spdt way , it's crazy, cats sleeping with dogs etc.

ha, that cap is a jumper across the input R/C- shhh, don't tell anybody.

Thanks Joe. I use Carling 316-PP DPDT switches. Less noise and longer shafts for better adjustment. I just wish they were cheaper in cost. Even at dealer cost, There around 8 bucks.

joegagan

agree. i have to send out special instructions to people who are having to deal with short shafts :icon_redface:
