Have any of you tried the AC187 transistors from Pedal Parts Plus?

I have searched around but I haven't really found any info about them. Does anyone here have experience with them?

I once bought a couple ge transistors from PPP and they were garbage. They dont test or guarantee anything. They just bull from a bulk bag so you're unlikely to get good parts unless you buy a bunch to sort through.

What kind of readings did you get when you measured them?

I dont remember as it was quite a while ago. They were all complete garbage though. Super leaky. Very low gain.

I got lucky and got a few decent ones from there, built a FF and and RM with them no probs.

That said, they aren't sorted or anything, I got them because I happened to be buying some others stuff, I know it's a little more but you might do the smallbear thing if you don't want to take chances.

IMO the peak DCA55 is such a bargain tool that any outlet selling Ge transistors not in bulk should be using one to rough sort devices so at the very least they are sending out a workable transistor. Even if the guys selling bulk on ebay took a random sample and posted quick gain and leakage values for 5-10 devices from a bag Im sure their prices would be a bit higher from buyers knowing what they are getting.

I ordered a few on a whim when I was ordering some other stuff from there this weekend. They should be here in a couple of days. I'll let you guys know what the results are. I have 40+ good NPN germaniums, but they are the only germanium transistors I have built anything with. I figured I'd give the 187's a shot and see if they sound different than what I have.

I tested the 4 of them today. The leakage was fine on all of them but they are very low gain. Gains ranged from 10-25. I'll try them out in a fuzzface tomorrow and see how they do. I've used gains as low as 30 in a fuzzface with good results, so I'm curious.

If nothing else, I'll use them for buffers.
